We’re moving to level 2! We hope you’re as excited as we are!

In accordance with the direction from the New Zealand Government, we’re delighted to announce that our showhome will be open to the public from Thursday 14 May. The showhome will be open daily between 10am and 2pm or by appointment outside of these hours.

We understand the risk of Covid-19 has not disappeared entirely so we are putting some safety measures in place to protect you and our staff. When you come to visit you’ll notice a couple of minor differences such as:

  • Signing in and out – This enables us to know who has visited the showhome and when
  • Limit visitors in the showhome at a particular time. Don’t worry great coffee is available just down the road at Red Cherry or Punnet if you wanted to fill in time
  • Increased cleaning program and hand sanitizer stations throughout the home
  • Social distancing will be maintained by staff and visitors

We know the next few weeks are going to be busy with visitors so we highly recommend you call or email Sandy to make an appointment to ensure that we get the opportunity to answer all your questions in a dedicated and uninterrupted manner.

Thank you everyone for your support over the last few weeks, we’re so excited to open our doors again and enable your retirement dream to become a reality.

Pets play a pivotal role in our lives so it was a huge relief for Jacquie Vercoe to discover she could bring her beloved spoodle dog, Luca, with her to Tamahere Country Club.

“I could not have parted from him,” she admits. Our pet-friendly policy helped seal the deal for Jacquie who has previously lived in Tamahere (on Pencarrow Road) for over six years. She is originally from Claudelands in Hamilton.

The attractive lawns and gardens Jacquie has seen at other Sanderson Group villages really appealed to her, alongside the fact she could have her own house and still be as independent as she wished while knowing full care facilities were available in future if required.

“Sandy and Brendon were so helpful and super to deal with. Having to make all the decisions either by telephone or email, the process was so easy. On the odd occasion I had to come to Tamahere Country Club I always received a very warm welcome.”

Jacquie says her family are very supportive of her decision to move and they will only be an hour’s drive away. “Several of my friends, having seen the Tamahere Country Club promotion on TV, have said they can see I will be so happy and would love to move to Tamahere as well. I still have a lot of old friends, school friends and a cousin nearby too.”

As well as caring for Luca, her favourite hobbies include knitting, gardening, reading, aqua aerobics and tai chi. Jacquie currently lives in a terraced house and can’t wait to begin a new chapter when she moves to Tamahere shortly.

“I am so looking forward to being on one level and also to having an internal garage. Plus I’m looking forward to making new friends.”

Our architects are busy finalising plans for our Care Centre which will include approximately 20 serviced apartments and secure dementia units. This facility will be a homely, inclusive environment and each apartment is designed to emulate our luxurious residential homes. Nursing and care staff will be available 24/7 and all meals and cleaning will be taken care of for you.

The dementia care facility at Bethlehem Views developed by Sanderson Group won a national design and build award in 2015 and we plan to raise the bar even higher at Tamahere Country Club. Research shows a calm and homely environment is hugely beneficial for dementia sufferers and we want to cater for their needs in every respect. Our Care Centre will be located near the front of our site, adjacent to our Clubhouse and Health Spa. We hope to submit plans to council for consent in the very near future.

In response to COVID-19 coronavirus Tamahere Country Club will be closed to all visitors and contractors effective 5pm 23 March 2020. We are taking this action as a result of government enforcement to protect our community. Although our showhome will remain closed until further notice the sales staff will be working from home and be available to respond to emails, answer phone calls and any other sales related enquiries.

The village will stay staffed by the Village Manager to meet the essential needs of residents living at Tamahere Country Club, however all social events and non-essential services have been cancelled. We remain committed to our residents and are available for essential assistance such as grocery shopping and providing medical supplies.

If you are have recently purchased with Tamahere Country Club and are due to move in soon we will contact you directly if there is likely to be an impact on the completion date of your home.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and understanding during this time.

An enormous 50 tonne crane is currently on site to help lift 35 tonnes worth of structural steel into place for our new Clubhouse. We expect the exterior framing to be finished by early March so the trusses and roof can then be installed. To give you an idea of this building’s sheer size, it will take approximately three weeks to finish the roof. An average-sized home usually takes just three days!

A whopping 64 truckloads of concrete were brought onto site to pour the 1500m² foundation pad earlier this month. The Clubhouse should be weather-tight by June and will eventually be clad in Hinuera stone and cedar to match our beautiful homes.

The surrounding carpark and roads are also being prepped and should be sealed within a month. Meanwhile, consent for the adjacent health spa (which will house our swimming pool, sauna and gymnasium), has been submitted to council and we expect to get the go-ahead in March so construction can begin. We’re all looking forward to watching these fantastic facilities be built.

Joining our team this month is Sales Administrator Adriane Bryce. She has hit the ground running and been inundated with enquiries from people eager to discover Tamahere Country Club.

Adriane will be showing people around our site and show homes, answering questions and explaining the benefits of village life. As a former real estate agent and kitchen design consultant, we couldn’t have found someone better suited to the job!

“I have a good eye for detail and our family has also been involved in property development so I understand the building process and all the decisions that need to be made along the way,” Adriane explains.

She and her husband, Dennis, relocated from Wellsford to the Waikato in 2012 so their two children could attend St Peter’s School in Cambridge. The family has lived in Tamahere ever since, and Adriane loves the lifestyle on offer here.

“It’s a wonderful community and I wouldn’t change it for anything. It’s really safe and very quiet. I love to ride horses and the wide grass verges are perfect for that. Tamahere is also very close to the river, walkways and cycleways and there’s lots of economic opportunities here too.”

Drawing upon her extensive kitchen design skills, Adriane can help residents choose their interior décor and colours from the options available. “I’m very good at reading plans and visualising dimensions. I like to help people get what they want.”

Adriane has travelled extensively to exciting locations such as the Galapagos Islands, Peru, Ecuador, Egypt, Holland and Italy but Tamahere will always be home.

“I used to buy our Christmas tree each year from the farm that sat on this very spot! I love it here, and it’s wonderful to be involved in such a high-end development as the Tamahere Country Club.”

We are thrilled to extend a very warm welcome to our inaugural resident, Anne Bonning, who moved in mid-February.

Anne lost her dear husband, Harry, in October last year and the process of packing up their North Shore home of 50 years was understandably difficult. “Harry struggled for two to three years with ill health but he always knew I was coming here to Tamahere. He would have been very pleased to know I would be happily resettled in our new home.”

While excited at the prospect of living closer to family in the Waikato, Anne was worried she might feel claustrophobic in a retirement village. “I’m used to an old rambling garden and a big house but Harry and I were convinced that in order to keep our independence, this was the only alternative.

“I must say Tamahere is a glorious solution to retirement living. It already has a wonderful atmosphere. I love the wide corridors and the high ceilings. The whole house has a great feeling of spaciousness and that in a retirement village is exactly the opposite to all the others. I’ve seen many of them but none were equal to the lovely openness I feel in my new home here.”

Within a week of moving in, Anne has already played a round of golf at the local club and enjoyed playing cards at the local Bridge Club. She says new homes are being built “everywhere you look” and she will be very pleased to meet her new neighbours soon.

Tamahere Village Manager, Brendon Russo, and Development Manager, Nathan Sanderson, have helped Anne settle in and organise all the small jobs that come with moving into a new home such as hooking up the internet and various appliances.

“They’ve come instantly to do lots of jobs around the house for me because I’m in my mid-80s and sadly can no longer do many of these things for myself now. The help has been absolutely brilliant and nothing is too difficult for them to sort. I’m most impressed with that sort of attention and believe I am a very lucky person.”

Red Cherry is a family-owned café situated five minutes down the road in Cambridge. It was once an apple packing shed but is now a charming spot to enjoy a great cup of coffee, delicious food and friendly service. They roast all their own coffee beans on site and have a fantastic selection of cabinet food plus a breakfast and lunch menu.

It’s been an exciting week for us here while we’ve been filming our first Tamahere Country Club TV commercial. A huge thanks to our lovely talent who looked absolutely fabulous, our support ladies who fed and watered the crew and the local businesses who helped us with locations and props. Special thanks to Hus who furnished our showhome, Ebbet Audi who supplied a stunning Audi Etron (which was very hard to give back…) and Hayes Common Cafe. Our commercial will be going to air from March 1st so keep an eye out for it on channel 1. In the meantime, here’s a couple of behind the scenes shots.
