Living in a big house can be difficult, especially when your health starts to deteriorate.
So when Harry and Anne Bonning discovered Tamahere Country Club – which is close to their extended family and promises to have a full care facility in future – they knew it was the solution they had been looking for.
“We chose Tamahere Country Club because we had suddenly found numerous difficulties coping on our own with Harry’s failing health,” Anne explains. “Also the house we wanted needed to be larger than what we could find elsewhere. When we saw that TCC is more spacious and had standalone dwellings, we were sold.”
Harry is a qualified aeronautical electrical engineer and spent 20 years in the United Kingdom’s Royal Navy before the couple immigrated to New Zealand in 1970. He subsequently worked in various engineering jobs and owned an engineering business on Auckland’s North Shore for two decades.
Anne was a London-trained secretarial personal assistant many years ago, and has done voluntary work throughout her married life, all of which she enjoyed immensely. “This was generally for music organisations especially chamber music in New Zealand, reorganising parents’ association fundraising at our children’s schools, organising books for housebound people, and similar very rewarding occupations.”
The couple’s hobbies and interests have always centred around music and going to concerts. “When younger, sailing has always been Harry’s favourite pastime and we sailed around the Hauraki Gulf and up to the Bay of Islands every summer,” Anne explains. “He has been involved in the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron (RNZYS) for years, including volunteer marshalling for the America’s Cup.” Nowadays, the pair both enjoy playing bridge and golf.
Anne says the sales process at Tamahere Country Club was “very good” as Sandy was always available to talk to. The couple are now looking forward to moving into their new home.
“Our family are all understanding of our needs and have been very busy helping us get ready for a move to Tamahere from a house we have lived in for 30+ years.”
